AFL-CIO Fellowships
The Legal Department of the AFL-CIO annually sponsors a one-year, full-time legal fellowship open to graduating 3Ls, clerks and recent law school graduates. The fellowship offers an excellent opportunity for recent law school graduates to work with experienced union-side lawyers on a variety of issues. The fellow assists experienced lawyers working on cases and regulatory matters that affect the labor movement and the rights of workers. Click here for more information. There are several other writing competitions for students so you should check your law school’s or state bar association’s websites.
AFL-CIO Spring Law Clerk
The AFL-CIO’s Legal Department seeks law clerks to assist on a variety of legal and public policy issues throughout the year. Law clerk duties include legal research and writing in a wide range of areas, including the National Labor Relations Act and a host of legislative, regulatory and public policy matters. Applicants must have a demonstrated interest in issues affecting working families. 2Ls preferred. Law Student Summer
The AFL-CIO Law Student Union Summer (LSUS) is a unique and exciting 10-week internship for first- and second year law students that combines front-line labor-related public interest legal work with grassroots organizing in real, ongoing campaigns by AFL-CIO affiliated unions in various regions of the country. In addition to legal research and writing, LSUS interns are involved in community outreach, member mobilization, corporate and other non-legal research, legislative campaigns and general litigation. Murphy Anderson Fellowship
Murphy Anderson PLLC, a Washington, DC-based public-interest law firm practicing labor, employment and whistleblower law, is accepting applications for the 2014 George R. Murphy Public Interest Fellowship. The fellowship offers recent law school graduates or judicial clerks the opportunity to litigate important public-interest cases at Murphy Anderson PLLC. The Peggy Browning Fund
The Peggy Browning Fund is a nonprofit corporation established in memory of Margaret Browning, a prominent labor attorney and member of the National Labor Relations Board. The Fund’s mission is to provide law students with diverse, challenging work and educational experiences in the area of workers’ rights. National Labor Relations Board Honors Program
The Honors Program of the National Labor Relations Board provides attorneys with superior records who have just completed law school, an LLM program, or a judicial clerkship with opportunities to work directly with the presidentially-appointed Board Members of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Assignments will include rotations of work on one or more Board Members staffs, in the Office of Representation Appeals, the Office of the Solicitor, and/or the Office of the Executive Secretary.
